3D numerical modeling and experimental validation of machining Nomex® honeycomb materials

Machining of Nomex® honeycomb materials is the biggest challenge in industry because complex forms and geometry structure. The latter characterized by a low density with orthotropic mechanical behavior. thin walls composite structure make shaping this material very difficult. Studying interactions between cutting tool material, forces, chip formation allow to understand machining process honeycomb. This paper presents 3D numerical modeling using different approaches failure criteria: (i) monolayer isotropic approach, (ii) approach Tsai-Wu criteria, (iii) Hashin criteria. A comparison experiments forces was performed validate proposed model. interaction walls, which it possible observe stages process, carefully modeled.
